Dear Parents and Parishioners,

As the principal of Saint Bernard School, I invite you to take a few minutes to read through this website. We offer an outstanding educational program for children age three in our Junior Pre-Kindergarten Program to grade 8. In addition to meeting all New York state requirements for elementary education, we offer that one important extra - a God-centered environment. Our caring faculty truly believes that each child is unique, a special Child of God. We live the phrase, "What would Jesus do?". A God centered, faith filled environment is a special gift to a child.

As a child, I was given a precious gift by my own parents, a Catholic education. I have fond memories of my school days at Our Lady of the Snows School and Bishop Reilly High School. When I graduated from college I knew there was only one place I wanted to teach, a Catholic school. I was fortunate to be hired by Holy Child Jesus School. There, I began my career and continued to study and earn my Master's Degree. When my own children were growing up I was a "stay-at-home mom", but continued my career by substituting at Our Lady of the Snows where I had begun my own education. My three children were then students there. As my children grew, I returned to the classroom at Saint Fidelis School and spent ten happy years working with the children of College Point. Feeling I had more to offer the educational system that was so important to my life, I applied to and was accepted by The Cabrini Institute, the Brooklyn Diocese's Principal Formation Program. I returned to school at Fordham University to earn the credits necessary for New York State Certification as an administrator. I received this certification in January 2004.

This year Saint Bernard school celebrates it 46th anniversary. I am proud to be the principal of such a fine school serving the children of Mill Basin and Bergen Beach. They are God's gift to us, and the future of our community.

Sincerely,
Kathleen Buscemi
