Saint Bernard School is accredited by the Middle States Association. The original accreditation was received in 1992. The school was reaccredited in 2002. The accreditation period is 10 years.Report Cards are issued three times during the school year, December, March, and June. An honor roll is posted for students in grades 4 through 8. During each trimester, on-going communication regarding the student's progress takes place. In October of each school year our students participate in the Terra Nova Testing Program. This is a nationally normed test that is given in all schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Students in grades 3 through 8 are tested. The results of the test show that our students exceed the national percentile score on all grade levels in reading, language arts, and math. New York State assessment regulations are followed. Grade 4 students are tested in English language arts, math, and science. Grade 6 students are tested in ELA and in math. Grade 8 students are tested in English language arts, math, and science. The vast majority of our students score above the level deemed to show proficiency in ELA and math. Students falling below the standard are given remedial instruction. In the 2008 - 2009 school year, we implemented a Standardized Technology test in Grade 5 and Grade 8. Our students scored above the Diocesan and National averages in all areas. Students graduating from Saint Bernard School take the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools. All students desiring acceptance to these schools gain admission. Our graduates attend: Saint Edmund, Bishop Kearney, Fontbonne Hall, Xaverian, Xavier, Saint Savior, Bishop Ford and Nazareth. Scholarships have been awarded to our top graduates. Some of our students take the New York City Specialized High School Admission Exam. Students from Saint Bernard have gone on to continue their education at Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Technical High School. Students have also been admitted to specialized programs in local schools. In addition to the academic assessment of our students, we also seek to ensure healthy, emotional, and social growth. We utilize the resources of the Program for the Development of Human Potential, a counseling program run by the Diocese of Brooklyn. |
